ZČU student teams designed workplace for testing materials and particles for the aerospace industry

Testing workstation for simulating the space environment – this topic was worked on by students from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen – participants in this year's interdisciplinary project DESING+.

Their task was to create a workplace with a modular vacuum chamber for space simulation, including a thermal unit, vacuum system and workstation for preparing and processing the tested components.

Four teams, consisting of students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Health Care Studies, worked on the design throughout the winter semester and were advised by STREICHER employees. Competitive presentations took place in February, resulting in two teams that were able to present their solutions (in English) at the 15th international DESING+ Workshop on 24th April.

The students have come a long way since the topic was announced in the fall. It was amazing to see how the future engineers, designers, economists and health professionals complemented each other, communicated across disciplines and developed solutions.

The practicality, innovative elements and inspiring design of the workplaces created are impressive. Above all, the encounters with the students and their view of the world were a great enrichment. And for certain the young people gain useful knowledge from the collaboration for their studies and for their future careers too.

The team led by Adam Kič received the title and a cash prize. Ultimately, all participants who have brought the project to a successful conclusion benefit. In order for the various departments to work together effectively and to form functioning teams in which everyone is aware of their role and can rely on each other, trust, reliability, responsibility and open communication are required – all of these are values that are also at STREICHER very important and form the basis of our company.
