Our assignment for students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Health Care Studies, and the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, within the interdisciplinary DESING+ project, was: “Workplace for Cryogenic Storage of Biological Materials.”
Throughout the winter semester, three student teams worked on the topic and regularly met with the business-technical director of our company Emil Černý, who consulted their proposals with them. In February, competitive presentations took place, and the best team advanced to the international DESING+ workshop in April, where they presented their design in English.
This year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also launched the DESING2 project. Its aim was likewise to teach students to collaborate across disciplines. This time, however, it involved collaboration between departments of a single faculty. The team included students from the Department of Machine Design and the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management.
Their task was to further develop our last year’s DESING+ project topic: “Workplace for Testing Components for the Space Industry.” The best of the three teams then presented their proposal to us at the international workshop in April.
We see supporting technical education as one of our key roles, and we consider activities where students get to collaborate across fields and gain real-world experience to be very meaningful.
