"The main benefit is that with each new project there is an opportunity to learn something new – each day is different."

If you had to describe what the job of a project manager entails, what would you say?

A project manager at STREICHER has a wide range of responsibilities. The work consists of managing and making decisions about individual projects, but also includes several secondary activities.

After a tailor-made quotation is approved by a client, the production begins. Individual sections of the project are dealt with, as well as important factors associated with production, such as deadlines, production costs, and production quality.

Sometimes a project cannot be finalised without first finding operational solutions to production problems. As a rule, orders are complete after final acceptance by the customer and transport to the end user. The last steps are financial evaluation of the order and overall production performance evaluation. So, as the long production process comes to
an end, so does the work of the project manager.

What kinds of projects do you handle?

The projects we handle are specific and most of them are seen as one-piece flow manufacturing projects. Many projects are never repeated. This brings a lot of benefits to our work.

The main benefit is that with each new project there is an opportunity to learn something new. Project management is adapted to suit the project and this in turn has a major impact on the working day because each day is different. I enjoy this about my job.

Most recently, we have been working on projects for the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences – Eli Beamlines, based in Dolní Břežany near Prague. These are projects related to research using laser pulses.

Other custom-made equipment is manufactured for foreign companies for which we supply various vacuum chambers designed for gear coating. We also supply pressure vessels intended for the food and pharmaceutical industries.

I assume that project managers cannot finish projects by themselves. Who supports and helps you?

I must agree with that. A project manager will never handle a project on their own. They are always the head of a team consisting of individuals or larger groups of people currently involved in the project.

My main collaborator in the office is my technical production assistant, who is my right-hand man and helps me with overall project preparation to keep things running smoothly.

Other important members of the team are colleagues in production. They turn projects into reality thanks to their long-term experience in the industry. Their hands are the most valuable assets the company has as they represent real know-how.

Why did you choose STREICHER?

After graduating from university, I wanted to work in the field I had studied so I had several job interviews in engineering-focused companies and STREICHER was one of them.

STREICHER’s response was quick and positive, while the other companies were slow and reticent to react. This made my decision easier. It could be said that STREICHER chose me. So far, this connection has worked very well, and I believe that the satisfaction is mutual and will continue for many more successful years.
